Features and Design of the Excalibur Dehydrator
The Excalibur Dehydrator features the Parallexx™ design. This uses a drying system that uses a temperature controlled, fan forced, horizontal drying method.
It draws cool air in to the back, which is heated and distributed evenly across each of the 9 trays. This means you don’t need to rotate the trays. The warm air removes the moisture from the food and vents it out of the front.
The main features include:
- 9 BPA free trays with BPA free mesh screen inserts. These hold food above the tray frames. These give you fourteen square feet of drying area and are dishwasher safe.
- 15 square feet of drying space.
- Removable trays allow for maximum flexibility: make yogurt, raise bread dough, dry crafts, and more.
- 600 watts of drying power.
- The wide temperature range provides for delicate low temperature drying and preservation of enzymes in raw food and higher temperature food drying to ensure safety for meat jerky, fish etc. The Adjustable thermostat allows perfect drying every time and square tray design increases drying area over dehydrators with round trays.
- 26 hour timer with auto shutoff.
- Rear mounted 7-inch fan for superior air circulation.
- Removable door makes loading and cleaning a cinch.
- Choice of black (3926TB) or white (3926TW) finishYou also get Excalibur’s dehydration guide included when you buy an Excalibur dehydrator.
Using the Excalibur Dehydrator
The Excalibur dehydrator is easy to use. You have a dial to choose the required temperature and a another one to set the time, and that is it. When it comes to cleaning, the trays are dishwasher safe. To clean the screens, just put them in the sink with hot soapy water and scrub with a brush. But, this is not an arduous task.
There are some other things that you can do with the Excalibur dehydrator that you can’t do with other dehydrators. For example, you can take out the trays and use it to make yogurt. Some people use it for drying flowers, drying crafts like salt dough sculpture, and making potpourri.
A great additional use of an Excalibur dehydrator is to raise bread dough.
To clean the inside of the Excalibur dehydrator. Simply, take out the trays and wipe it down with a damp cloth. This isn’t something you have to do a lot, unless you are making jerky or something juicy.
To make cleaning even easier, you may want to put a shallow pan or parchment paper in the bottom of the Excalibur dehydrator. This will catch the drips when you are dehydrating particularly juicy foods.
Should you buy an Excalibur Dehydrator?
Overall, the Excalibur dehydrator exceeds our expectations when it comes to drying many pieces of fruit, vegetables, and meat. The main drawback is the loud noise it makes. It is a similar noise you get from a microwave. Otherwise, the performance of the Excalibur dehydrator impresses.
