How To Buy The Best Cold Press Juicer

20 minutes read

A cold press juicer is simply a juicer that extracts juice from ingredients, without using any heat. Cold press juicers are also known as masticating juicers. They use hydraulic power to chew through the ingredients to get the juice out. Here is our guide on how to buy the best cold press juicer for you.

The Difference Between a Cold Press Juicer And a Centrifugal Juicer

Centrifugal juicers are the most common in people’s homes. These use a fast spinning blade that presses against as mesh filter. This extracts the juice from the ingredients you put in to the feed chute. The juice goes in to one container, while the pulp goes in to another.

The disadvantage of centrifugal juicers, is that they produce heat. Unfortunately, this destroys the enzymes in the juice. This makes the juice less nutritious.

Cold press juicers crush and press the ingredients. This means heat is not produced, making the juice more nutritious. You don’t get as much juice, but the juice you do get is more beneficial to your health.

A cold press juicer is ideal if you want to make things such as, nut milks, green juices and very nutritional juices.

What to look for in a Cold Press Juicer

Budget

As with anything, you need to start with how much you are willing to pay for your cold press juicer. If you go for a cheaper cold press juicer, you will forfeit a few features such as. multiple speeds, pulp collector or they just may be more difficult to clean.

Pulp Ejection

You will notice that most cold press juicers have their own pulp collecting container. The ones that don’t have their own containers may need to be placed over a bin. If you are looking at a cold press juicer with its own pulp container, get one with an external container. This is because you don’t have to open the machine up to empty the pulp out of it.

Speed

It is best to buy a cold press juicer with multiple speeds. This is because slow speeds are best for soft fruit, such as oranges and melon, while fast speeds are best for hard ingredients like carrots.

Strainer

Have a look at the strainer. If it has a course strainer, it will let more pulp in to the juice than a fine one.

Chute Size

Large chutes will save you preparation time, as you will be able to fit whole fruits in to it. They also reduce the likelihood of the juicer of clogging up

Size and Design

If you are going to be using your cold press juicer every day you might want to keep it on your kitchen worktop. Therefore, how it looks may be important to you. Also, the size is also a factor especially if you have a small kitchen or you want to store it in a cupboard.

Ingredients

The type of juice that you will be getting form your cold press juicer, obviously depends on the ingredients you feed in to it. Not all cold press juicers are good for juicing all ingredients. Some are best for juicing fruits and veggies. But there are machines that are good for butters and sauces. Some work better with soft ingredients, while others are better with hard. There are, of course juicers that can do everything.

Cleaning

It is important to clean your cold press juicer after every use. This is because they shouldn’t be left too dry. Therefore, a juicer that is relatively easy to clean is important. Look for dishwasher safe parts too.

Occasional or Regular Use?

Some cold press juicers cannot cope with heavy duty juicing. So if you have a large family, want to use it for commercial purposes or  just going to be using it all the time, you may want to spend a little more money for reliability.

Warranty

Most juicers come with a warranty. These are usually one to two years. For peace of mind, this definitely should be a consideration.
