What is a Citrus Juicer?

A citrus juicer is designed to extract juice from fruits such as oranges, lemons, grapefruit etc. Basically, any type of fruit that is quite soft and easy to squeeze the juice out of. Citrus juicers make it easy to get the juice out, so you don’t have to do it manually and tire out your hands.

Most citrus juicers have a cone on the top, on which you place halved fruits. There is usually some kind of cup that it pushed down over the fruit to squash it in to the cone. Sometimes this cup is on a lever that requires you to press it down and some are automatic.

Most citrus juicers have a motor that spins the cone, which extracts the juice and the pulp.

A citrus juicer is for anyone that wants more than a glass of orange juice that isn’t from a carton. The majority of people buy a small manual operated juicer. These are nothing special, but they get the job done and are easy to use. However, if you want to squeeze more juice from your oranges, they might not cut it.

You can buy automatic citrus juicers that are make life easier. If you want to make large amounts of juice they are better than their manual counterparts. But, you can also buy citrus juicers that are more suited to industrial or commercial uses.

If you are just looking to make a few glasses of orange juice in the morning, we recommend that you look in to a good automatic juicer.

What to look for in a Citrus Juicer

  • Materials – Look for citrus juicers made from good materials, such as stainless steel and BPA free plastic
  • Usefulness – You need a citrus juicer to be not only easy to use, but easy to dismantle and assemble. This makes it easier when it comes to cleaning
  • Dishwasher safe – Once you have taken your juicer apart, putting all the dirty bit in the dishwasher is much better than scrubbing them yourself
  • Performance – You want a citrus juicer to extract the most amount of juice and pulp possible
  • Pulp Control – Some citrus juicers allow you to adjust the amount of pulp that ends up in your drink. This is useful for when you have kids that don’t like “bits” in their orange juice

A good citrus juicer will actually save you money in the long term. This is because squeezing oranges at home is more cost effective than buying the stuff you get in cartons. Also, freshly squeezed juice is healthier, as you know there are no preservatives or added sugar.
