What is the best centrifugal juicer?

18 minutes read

We all know that juicing is a great way to increase our intake of vitamins and nutrients. One of the ways that we can supercargo our juices, is to add leafy greens to them. These have the highest concentration of nutrients and a centrifugal juicer is one of the fastest ways to get the juice out of them. In this post we are going to answer the question “what is the best centrifugal juicer?”. We are going to let you know what to look for in a centrifugal juicer and give you some great examples.

Centrifugal Juicer Considerations

Materials

Most centrifugal juicers use plastics in their construction. This is to keep their prices down, but it doesn’t mean that it is a bad thing, unless it is used on the inside of the juicer. Plastics are fine for the feed chute, base and controls. But the straining basket and shredding disc should not be made from plastic.

Feed Chute

The feed chute of your centrifugal juicer is more important than you realise. The main characteristic you need to consider, is its size. Centrifugal juicers with large feed chutes allow you to easily feed in both fruit and veg. They also reduce your preparation time, as you don’t have to chop the ingredients up too much. However, large feed chutes make it more difficult to push the fruit and veggies in to the shredding discs.

Speed and Power

You will find that centrifugal juicers tend to juice quite quickly. This isn’t necessarily a good thing. This is because a juicer that is working hard produces heat. This heat destroys the enzymes in the ingredients.

A juicer with a low juicing speed is more beneficial. If you are struggling to find a low speed juicer, buy one with multiple speed settings.

Power is not the same as speed. A high powered centrifugal juicer will be able to chomp through ingredients better. This is important for hard veggies, as your juicer won’t break down when the going gets tough.

Noise

A good centrifugal juicer has good noise damping. This is quite important, as a motor spinning a shredding disc at 3000 rpm tends to create a lot of noise. With high end juicers, you should hear more noise from the ejection system than the motor. If you are the type that gets up early for a juice at breakfast, a quiet juicer shouldn’t wake up the whole household.

Ejection System

Some juicers deposit pulp in to a different container from the juice, others don’t. But, all centrifugal juicers will dispense juice in to a specific container.

An ejection system allows you separate the juice from the pulp. This actually make your juicer easier to clean. A centrifugal juicer without an ejection system means you have to clean all the pulp out before you can make your next juice.

Warranty

Centrifugal juicers don’t have a particularly long shelf life. So if you can buy a juicer with more than a year’s warranty, you have a good deal. Warranties are usually between one and three years. You can, of course buy extended warranty.
